"By doing what you love, you inspire and awaken the hearts of others."
What a beautiful (and true!) thought. It’s so easy to see doing the things we love as selfish, or a waste of time. There’s work to be done and mountains to be conquered, right? Really, though, doing what we love is an investment in ourselves and one of the few ways we can recharge and bring the best of ourselves to our lives and our relationships. And it inspires the people around us to lean into their dreams and do more of the things they love.
Me: What’s your proudest moment in running Katie-Did’s Cakery?
Katie: The proudest moment has to be each weekend when all my orders have been delivered and seeing the joy in peoples faces when they see the cake they had in mind come to life.
Me: On your Insta feed it’s beautiful to see how much love you get from the people in your hometown of Rome, Georgia. How do you think Katie-Did’s Cakery captured the heart of Rome?
Katie: Rome is a town where everyone knows everyone. Word spread fast when people found out I started doing cakes full time. This town is huge on supporting local businesses, capturing the heart of this town has been through social media. I get messaged daily telling me they look forward to seeing my post and it makes their day.
Me: And what made you decide on Rome as the place for Katie-Did’s Cakery?
Katie: I grew up in Rome GA all my life. I went to culinary school here, as well, at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. I always thought about moving but never could bring myself to do so. Then I met my husband and we are both family oriented and we knew we were also going to make this place our home.
Me: Okay, so one fun, final question. If Katie-Did’s Cakery was a song, what song would it be?
Katie: If my business was a song, it would probably be Sparrows by Jason Gray. I take this business one day at a time; I cannot worry about things I cannot control. Just like the song says, “If He can hold the world He can hold this moment, even the sparrows know He holds tomorrow, lean in and it’s hard to miss, everything can change when you make it His.” The Lord has blessed me with this talent and I am going to use it to the best of my ability, and give it all back to Him. I thank Him daily for what He has given me.
