Do small things with great love.
This week’s installment of Meet the Makers features a beautiful example of small things done with great love.
Olive Branch Bakery, founded by Jacqueline Edwards in 2017, mixes a whole lot of love into its French macarons, cookie sammys, and rustic cakes. And I promise you, that extra bit of magic is evident in every delightful morsel of their freshly-baked marvels!
But it doesn't stop there. Olive Branch Bakery weaves a genuine love for and from the community into everything it does. So get ready to be inspired and encouraged by our interview with Jacqueline and the story of Olive Branch Bakery!
Me: I love that the idea for Olive Branch Bakery started when you made macarons for your daughter's birthday. Was this always a secret dream of yours?
Jacqueline: I have always loved to bake but honestly I never in my wildest dreams imagined I could own a bakery! It was never the plan but I’m so thrilled it has happened.
Me: How amazing that a year later, you own a bakery that’s so well-loved! Who are the people behind Olive Branch Bakery?
Jacqueline: I do all of the baking but it’s truly a group effort! My amazing family steps in to help with my kids, fill macarons and make deliveries for me! I have recently hired two girls to help me with markets and events. I strongly believe that Laura Gossett at Tasty Table is a huge part of OBB. She has become a mentor and is always encouraging me and helping me take steps to grow my business!
Home sweet home...
Me: It sounds like your town and community are a huge part of what makes Olive Branch Bakery so special. So why Murfreesboro, Tennessee? What drew you here and made you want to create Olive Branch Bakery here?
Jacqueline: I am originally from Canada but we moved here when I was a kid because of my dad’s job. I grew up in the Franklin area and moved to Murfreesboro when I got married. I have grown to love this town and it’s truly my home now.
Me: How do you think your product captures the heart of your town?
Jacqueline: Murfreesboro has grown quickly but is still holding on the mentality of supporting small businesses. The amount of support this town has given me blows me away. I do my best to incorporate local ingredients and promote other businesses when I can. I love this town and I hope to represent it well!
Me: Well I’d say you do! And I love how you incorporate local ingredients. Can you tell me more about that?
Jacqueline: I use local as much as possible. I’m always looking for new businesses with fresh and fun ingredients to use! Jams, fruit, eggs, coffee, olive oil, etc
Me: What are your favorite places in and around Murfreesboro?
Jacqueline: The Ruston, The Exchange and Tasty Table. I have built some incredible relationships with the owners of these establishments and love to hang out there! As far as grabbing an amazing meal and a delicious cocktail my “go to” is The Alley. I also love to cruise around Downtown Franklin and stop in Triple Crown Bakery!
Me: I understand that Olive Branch Bakery has a special connection to local charitable causes, as well?
Jacqueline: I recently did a fundraiser for Super Sophie (my friend’s daughter battling cancer) and I’m getting ready to do an event with Special Kids. I would love to get more involved in that organization.
The secret ingredient...
Me: What has been your proudest moment in running Olive Branch Bakery?
Jacqueline: So far it has been my article in Murfreesboro Magazine! For a business less than a year old that was an incredible moment for me. Ask me again in two weeks and my answer may be different (hint hint).
Me: I’ll be on the lookout!! Okay, final two questions. What do you want people to feel when they try Olive Branch Bakery sweets for the first time?
Jacqueline: I love sharing joy through food. My favorite thing is to see people’s reactions when they bite into a macaron! The bite, the pause, the smile; it’s everything to me!
Me: And because we’re so close to Nashville, if Olive Branch Bakery was a song, what song would it be?
Jacqueline: I have an entire baking playlist and it’s mainly songs that I can dance around to. I love to sing and dance while I bake and I love empowering songs so I guess if I had to pick one it would be “Unstoppable” by Sia.
Me: I know the love and joy you share through Olive Branch Bakery is definitely unstoppable! Thanks so much, Jacqueline!
I hope Jacqueline’s story and the heart behind her bakery inspired you like it did me! Whether we’re making macarons or sales calls, lets do small things with great love today!
